13 linksHere’s a look at some interesting things we read/ saw / thought / did this week.

Kim…

  1. A new evening habit… I used to fall into bed with all my makeup on even though I knew it was bad for my skin. I started implementing this new habit several months ago and it has much a huge difference.
  2. Idea debt… I am notorious for this!! Time to stop thinking and start doing.
  3. Taking a month off social media… This is not new. People talk about doing this all the time. I think I need to because like I mentioned above, it just fuels more ideas but doesn’t actually help me get off my butt and put those ideas into motion.
  4. Defeat your laziness… Are we seeing a trend now? I actually do use the ‘touch it once’ rule but these other ideas are really clever!
  5. Being a dancer makes you disciplined… Let’s see the other side. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that growing up a competitive dancer gave me the work ethic and determination that I have today. In a work environment or school environment I like to shine in every way possible. Still doesn’t mean I’m immune to laziness every once in awhile though.
  6. Trish hosted A Day in the Life this week.. and I have had so much fun reading through everyone’s posts. I think it’s kind of interesting to see how we all spend a typical day outside of books and blogs.
  7. Are Book Clubs good for your health?… I just joined my first ever book club and went to my first ever meeting a week ago. I’m not sure why I haven’t joined a book club before because I had a blast. I think it helps that the ladies in this club were so welcoming, humorous, and thoughtful.
  8. 5 of the Creepiest Rabbits in Fiction… Just because it’s Easter weekend. Would you believe my husband got talked into dressing up as the Easter Bunny for a family party this past weekend? Hilarious. I managed to get some good blackmail video of him hopping around.

Tanya …

9. I like these 8 Morning Mantras That’ll Help Keep Your Finances on Track especially “I don’t need things to make me happy. I choose my own happiness.”

10. I think I’ve had all 72 Thoughts We’ve All Had While on Goodreads.

11. EASY DIY Oatmeal Packets makes morning breakfast at work super easy.

12. These 5 Tips to Perfecting Your Side Hustle offers some excellent advice on managing 2 gigs.

13. In case you need more books in your life, here are 21 Ways I Get My Hands on Books

We hope you had a great Easter weekend. My weekend was filled with good food and time with family. Tanya is vacationing it up in St. Maarten! Lucky her. What are you most looking forward to reading, seeing or doing next week?

I’ve had a mixed relationships with book clubs over the years.

The best one (for me)? The one I set up when living in Ireland where we didn’t have a set read each month. Well we did, but you didn’t have to read it. The conversation could be as light or as heavy as the mood took us – it could be as simple as “did ANYONE like it? Right, whose round is it?”. I think the longest conversation was about 30 mins, finishing with “Right, whose round is it?”. Can you tell what the common theme was? A bunch of book lovers, who met once a month to go drinking. Boy could we drink. The group is still going, after a fashion, 10 years after I left.

Most other bookgroups I’ve belonged to have unfortunately fallen into a certain trap after a while: they can be dominated by a few people, usually women, usually slightly older, who take over and run it the way they want the group to be run. I do office politics all day, every day, so when I socialise to do something I like (e.g. reading) I don’t want to have to either fight someone else for my corner, or be dictated to when I don’t. Or be there with a friend who feels dictated to, and who then pulls me down into their unhappy path – I don’t need the stress man!

@Nordie I love how your book club in Ireland did it!

    • Yes! That’s exactly it. I love this book club because it’s so chill. We all just get together and have a relaxed conversation. I also love that a different person hosts each month and they get to pick the book. So we read a whole bunch of different kinds of books and that keeps it interesting.

  2. Thank you for including the book clubs and health post! That said, I’m so glad that you found a book club that you like. I’ve had a hard time finding a local one (thank goodness for the internet!) but have a renewed inspiration to find one!

@Allison I hope you find one you like!

    • I honestly didn’t think book clubs were for me, but thankfully this one is just like a bunch of girlfriends getting together and laughing. It’s great.
