Readers know their stuff and they never fail to talk up some really great stories. Here are three books we feel really lived up to the hype.

The Nest, Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney

I’m not a big contemporary fan, but I get why this book is so popular. The author did an amazing job with the characters. They were totally relatable, and also the situations they were in was so well interwoven into the story that I loved seeing everything unveil. I listened to the audiobook, narrated superbly by Mia Barton.

Every family has its problems. But even among the most troubled, the Plumb family stands out as spectacularly dysfunctional.

The Widow, Fiona Barton

This book made the Publisher’s Weekly Best Books of 2016 – Mystery / Thrillers list. And it hooked me from the first page, and then it slowly reeled me in as I started to develop all kinds of theories.

When the police started asking questions, Jean Taylor turned into a different woman. One who enabled her and her husband to carry on, when more bad things began to happen… But that woman’s husband died last week. And Jean doesn’t have to be her anymore.

  1. All the Light has been on my TBR list for ages. It sounds like a good one! I’ve also heard great things about The Nest, but I don’t think it’s for me.

  2. I thought about putting The Nest on my list too! Glad you enjoyed it. Sadly, I’m one of the few that couldn’t get into All the Light…I didn’t make it past the sample and felt like even that was a slog.
