4 More Books With Crazy Weird Apocalyptic Events

Last month I wrote about 4 Books With Crazy Weird Apocalyptic Events, and of course – I wanted to read more! Here are 4 MORE books with some outlandish apocalyptic events or symptoms that ushered in a new World … in books.

Animals

Zoo, James Patterson. All over the World, animals are attacking humans. Pets are swarming and killing their owners, wild animals are … wild! And only 1 person in the World saw it coming. But, so what. Humans will soon run to of places to hide – or can the World be saved?

Hair Loss

Bald New World, Peter Tieryas Liu. At sometime in the future, everyone goes bald.  No one knows the reason why, and the future becomes a place where plastic surgery is the norm for everyone, cricket fighting is the new underground thing and body armor is worn on a day to day basis in some places. The future has some interesting developments.

An Unknown Entity

Bird Box, Josh Malerman. People start dying from something they have seen, but nobody knows what it is. Do you barricade the doors and never let anyone in? Do you go outside only while wearing a blindfold? How will you find food, get supplies – do you dare open your eyes … ever?

An Unknown Illness

Suffer the Children, Craig DiLouie. Children all over the World start dying suddenly from an unknown illness later dubbed Herod’s Syndrome, but soon, they return from the grave and ask for blood. And with blood, they stop being dead. They continue to remain the children they once were … but only for a short time, as they need more blood to live … how far would you go as a parent to keep your child alive?

What are some of books you’ve read that feature weird apocalyptic events? Have you read any of these books? What did you think?

  1. I have not read an apocalyptic story in awhile (and really need to finish the Divergent series). I do enjoy them just have not made time for them. Bird Box sounds like a good one. I try to stay away from reading about kids out for blood. 🙂 Thanks for sharing with Small Victories Sunday Linkup. Pinned to our linkup board and tweeted.

I loved Zoo and can’t wait to try the others. Suffer the children sounds like an especially sad circumstance and Bald New World sounds funny.

These books all sound super creepy! Bird Box keeps popping up and piquing my interest so I might give that a go.Ben Marcus’s The Flame Alphabet has a very original premise – people become allergic to the sound of children’s voices, and eventually to all human voices.

I just posted an apocalyptic top 10 – there might be a few here you haven’t read: http://annabelsmith.com/?p=1658

I’ve read the Zoo, which I didn’t really care for (just didn’t like the author’s writing style), and Bird Box, which I thought was amazing 🙂
