Here’s a look at some interesting things we read/ saw / thought / did last week.

Bookish

-Tanya –

ONE. Publisher’s Weekly Best Books of 2017 is out – one of my favorite “best of” lists. I haven’t read any of the books on the Top 10 list, and the only 1 I’ve read across all the genres is The Hate U Give, Angie Thomas which was so … so good.

-Kim-

TWO. Did you vote for the first round of the Goodreads Choice Awards this weekend? I voted in four categories. I try not to vote unless I’ve read the majority of the books in a category.

THREE. I’m pretty excited for Murder on the Orient Express to come out. I love that book. Here’s a great list of other books you can read if you liked it too.

FOUR. The Best Books To Read If You Want To Have A Great Week. I love this list.

Life

-Kim-

FIVE. I’ve been keeping a list of podcasts I plan to get to ‘someday’ and I’ve now added this list of Spooky Podcasts.

SIX. Lots of people are participating in NaNaWriMo. For as much as I love books, I’ve never had the desire to write one myself. Are you participating?

SEVEN. One Cake At A Time. I’m very slowly learning this lesson.

EIGHT. Literary Candles are everywhere these days. I’ll admit that I finally jumped on the bandwagon and bought some. I’m a sucker for a flickering candle this time of year anyway.

CURRENTLY READING

-Kim- I’ve got four books going right now! It’s kind of an experiment. The one that I’m farthest along in is The Collapsing Empire, John Scalzi. It’s the second book in The Old Man’s War series.

  1. I love the end-of-year best of lists, but it drives me crazy when they come out so early! I;m not ready to think “end of year” yet!!

My own list of podcasts I want to listen to is so long I could never get to all of them! So many that sound SO good!

Great list as always – thanks!

    • My list of podcasts is long too. I think that’s why I still haven’t started listening to ANY podcasts. It’s just too overwhelming. Plus, podcast listening time would cut in to my reading time.

Love your lists and off to explore a few. I do vote on Goodreads if I have read the book, I don’t vote if I haven’t read the book. It is rare I have read all the books in a category mainly because I read a number of genres. Love the candles. Hope they give off a great scent while you read.

    • Same here. I just can never get to everything that I want to read in a year.

  3. I don’t know how I feel about the new Murder on the Orient Express movie, I grew up with the David Suchet Poirot on PBS, and I just can’t seem to wrap my mind around Kenneth Branagh as the little Belgian detective with the “egg-shaped head”!

    • Hahaha! Yes. I kind of have to agree. I have seen some of the Poirot PBS episodes but not all of them. David Suchet will ALWAYS be Poirot to me!

I think I only voted in two Goodreads categories this year. Like you, I don’t feel right voting on a book I haven’t read. Sometimes I wish they would come out with the preliminary list a little earlier so I could concentrate my reading on the nominees, and could cast a more valid vote!

    • Yes! That’s a great idea. I’d love to read from the list starting in the summer or something. I feel like a lot of people just vote for their favorite authors whether they’ve read the book or not. Or they vote for books that have got a lot of buzz.
