A Hiking Bucket List

One of my favorite things to do is head up to the hills for a good hike. I’m fortunate to have countless great hikes in the mountains that run the length of my home state. Many of these are just a few minutes from my house. This year I started a small hiking bucket list. Here’s what I’ve set down so far.

1. An overnight backpacking trip. This one still feels a bit intimidating to me but I still want to do it. Why not combine two of my favorite things- camping and hiking?

2. Complete a hike in every National park in Utah. We have a goal to visit every National Park in the United States. I’ve visited them all in Utah but I haven’t hiked them all.

3. Hike with my family all year long. Last year we did a winter hike and it was so much fun. Even our one year old enjoyed being in the backpack and then getting out to explore the snow.

How do you gear up to do something that’s fun but a bit intimidating?

@Kim – I’m so tempeted to do a winter ik but haven’t yet. The cold and I are not friends … we aren’t even frenemies. Still – I’d like to give snow shoeing a try.

    • I really want to try snowshoeing as well but haven’t made it happen yet. Honestly, I really dislike being out in the cold so I triple layer myself when we winter hike and that’s the only way I’m able to enjoy it.
