Crack the Case

“Read a mystery, detective book, true crime, or any type of who-dunnit story.”

Our Choices

❧ Tanya The Outsider, Stephen King. Nope – it’s not a horror novel from King, who is one of my favorite authors. In recent years, I’ve been reading his releases as soon as they come out – and this year will be no different. The only question is whether I’ll read the hardcover, or listen to it as an audiobook. What do you think I should do!

Outsider (Book) Stephen King

An eleven-year-old boy is found in a town park, hideously assaulted and murdered. The fingerprints (and later DNA) are unmistakably those of the town’s most popular baseball coach, Terry Maitland, a man of impeccable reputation, with a wife and two daughters. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland coached, orders an immediate and public arrest. Maitland is taken to jail, his claim to innocence scorned. Maitland has a foolproof alibi, with footage to prove that he was in another city when the crime was committed. But that doesn’t save him either.

❧ Kim … Are you guys tired of hearing me talk about Tana French? Well, I’m finally going to read The Secret Place, which is the 5th book in the Dublin Murder Squad and the only one I haven’t read yet. There are actually six books so far but I read them out of order (which is totally fine and doesn’t ruin the stories.) I meant to read this ages ago but just got distracted by other books.

The photo on the card shows a boy who was found murdered, a year ago, on the grounds of a girls’ boarding school in the leafy suburbs of Dublin. The caption says, I KNOW WHO KILLED HIM.
