Currently Reading [Playing Catch Up]

April and May turned out to be really rough months for me- for various reasons. Mentally I was just not feeling up to taking in any more information. So I quit reading. I think I just really needed a brain break. I’d been pushing my reading hard since January and I wanted to focus on other projects. So I set the books aside and also stepped temporarily away from the blog. But now I feel totally refreshed and ready to get back into the bookish world. That being said, taking six weeks off of reading means my reading goals have taken a bit of a hit. I’m reevaluating now and working on a plan to play catch up and get back on track.

Ancillary Justice, Ann Leckie – This was the first book I read after my brain break. I had it on hold at the library and when it came in, I decided it was the right time to get back to reading. (I temporarily stopped picking up my holds.) I’ve been meaning to read this one for ages now. Lately I’ve been really into science fiction and I knew a lot of people considered this a must read. They weren’t wrong. It’s reminiscent of Martha Wells, Murderbot Series.

Ancillary Justice, Ann Leckie

On a remote, icy planet, the soldier known as Breq is drawing closer to completing her quest. Once, she was the Justice of Toren– a colossal starship with an artificial intelligence linking thousands of soldiers in the service of the Radch, the empire that conquered the galaxy. Now, an act of treachery has ripped it all away, leaving her with one fragile human body, unanswered questions, and a burning desire for vengeance.

  1. I’ve been there, often am there with information overload. And sometimes you just have to put the blog and reading on pause. Last week, I finished Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport, which was good, although I couldn’t completely relate to the author and his circumstances.

Yes! It’s funny that I can even feel information overload when I’m reading fiction.

It’s healthy to take a break from time to time! Makes it easier to find back to the joy of reading when you start again.

I haven’t read much sci-fi yet, but Ancillary Justice sounds interesting. Will definitely check it out! I am currently reading The boy who steals houses by C. G. Drews and Confessions of a Citygirl by Suzana S.

    • Yes! I agree. I haven’t read anything by either of those authors. I’ll have to check them out.
