Are any of your favorite series being updated this year with new releases? Below are a few that we’re looking forward to here at GXO.

The City of Mirrors (The Passage #3), Justin Cronin

city of mirrors book

This epic series about the annihilation of life as we know it thanks to an epidemic of “virals” is about to come to a conclusion. The series was a slow burn but so worthy of investing time in these big books.

In “The Passage” and “The Twelve”, Justin Cronin brilliantly imagined the fall of civilization and humanity’s desperate fight to survive. Now all is quiet on the horizon but does silence promise the nightmare’s end or the second coming of unspeakable darkness?

End of Watch (Bill Hodges #3), Stephen King

end of watch book

This series was more crime noire, than the typical horror / creeptastic Stephen King style. But it looks like he couldn’t leave the weird alone, and I might just be in for a treat with the final book in this series.

Brady Hartsfield, perpetrator of the Mercedes Massacre, where eight people were killed and many more were badly injured, has been in the Traumatic Brain Injury Clinic for five years, in a vegetative state. According to his doctors, anything approaching a complete recovery is unlikely. But behind the drool and stare, Brady is awake, and in possession of deadly new powers that allow him to wreak unimaginable havoc without ever leaving his hospital room.

A Torch Against the Night (An Ember in the Ashes #2), Sabaa Tahir

a torch aginst the nightI haven’t talked about this book a lot, but I read it almost towards the end of last year, and it was incredible.

A Torch Against the Night takes readers into the heart of the Empire as Laia and Elias fight their way north to liberate Laia’s brother from the horrors of Kauf Prison. Hunted by Empire soldiers, manipulated by the Commandant, and haunted by their pasts, Laia and Elias must outfox their enemies and confront the treacherousness of their own hearts.

Kim– I have so many series that I want to finish this year! But this summer I’m focusing on these three:

Dublin Murder Squad (Broken Harbour #4), Tana French

broken harbourSo far there are three books in the series. They don’t have to be read in order and I’ve read all but #4 and #6. French’s books don’t always wrap up with a pretty bow but I think that’s what I like the best. They’re more true to how crime mysteries really are.

In Broken Harbour, a ghost estate outside Dublin – half-built, half-inhabited, half-abandoned – two children and their father are dead. The mother is on her way to intensive care. Scorcher Kennedy is given the case because he is the Murder Squad’s star detective.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Dreams of Gods and Monsters #3), Laini Taylor

dreams gmI cannot believe I haven’t finished this series yet! The third book has been sitting on my shelf for ages. Karou is one of my favorite characters and Taylors writing is always so magical. Time to see how this series ends.

By way of a staggering deception, Karou has taken control of the chimaera rebellion and is intent on steering its course away from dead-end vengeance. The future rests on her, if there can even be a future for the chimaera in war-ravaged Eretz.

Insignia (Catalyst #3), S.J. Kincaid

catalystI have been slowly making my way through these books. At first the main character, Tom Raines, got on my nerves and I didn’t know if I was going to read anymore. But I already had book #2 so I read on and found that the way the character developed was just so great and I was hooked. I’d really like to see him come out on top.

Tom Raines and his friends are eager to return to the Pentagonal Spire to continue training for the elite Intrasolar Forces, but they soon discover troubling changes: strict new regulations and the revelation that the Spire is under new military control. What begins as an irritating adjustment soon reveals a dangerous shift in reality.
