My Reading (I)nbox [A Mid-Year Reading List Update]

We’re keeping track of the books that we’ve mentioned here on GXO, that we’d like to read this year, and trying to give them first priority. But we’re also mood readers – so we have a few outstanding – and we’re posting about it so we can get our butts in gear. Or strike them off the list. Here’s my mid-year report.

From the last update in March – The State of Our 2017 Reading Lists This Year {So Far} – I had 3 books to read. I finished 2 of them, and I’m taking the reamining one off the list.

1.  Nutshell, Ian McEwan – (x) Deleted, probably won’t read this one because I just don’t feel like, so taking it off the list.

2.  (✓) The Rose & the Dagger (The Wrath & the Dawn #2), Renee Ahdieh -Loved it! Awesome ending to the series – although the first book was better (in my humble opinion).

3. (✓) Bone Witch, Rin Chupeco – This turned out to be a disappointment … boring, didn’t care about the characters and I felt the story didn’t really go anywhere.

New to the List

I need to read more translations for the Around the World Through Language challenge. So far, I’m at 3/10 with books translated from Japanese, Norwegian and German. I’m adding …

1. a Spanish translation with Fever Dream, Samanta Schweblin – which as gotten some very good reviews.

2. a Hungarian translation of Satantango, Laslo Krasznahorkai, which has been on my eReader forevah!

3. My oldest son and I used to read the same books so we could discuss and we’re getting back to it with a re-read (for me) of It, Stephen King. I think this will be his first Stephen King novel too. I’m listening to the audiobook and he’ll read the print version.

4. In the Follow the Clues Mystery Challenge I’m following the clue “serial killer” from The Thirst, Jo Nesbo by adding Children of the Street, Kwei Quartey. This will be a new-to-me author that I saw on a list of 100 Must Read Books About Serial Killers @ BookRiot. This book will also qualify for 2017 Diverse Reads Book Challenge and give me a “G” for The A to Z Challenge – Location Edition sine it’s set in Ghana.

  1. Wow, you’re doing great! I agree with you completely about Wrath and Rose 🙂 And I have heard so many similar things about The Bone Witch, sadly. I LOVE that you and your son are reading the book together! I haven’t read it, but I have heard amazing things, of course! I hope you guys have a great time bonding over books!

I haven’t read The Bone Witch but it seems like one of those polarizing books where you either love it or hate it.

@Kat yes. I’ve seen some favorably reviews and I just couldn’t get down with it like that.
