Reading From the Best Sellers (L)ist [The Woman in Cabin 10]

The Woman in Cabin 10 [Bestseller]]

The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware is currently sitting pretty at #8 on the NY Times Bestseller list. I read it but while I thought it was OK – didn’t love it though.

The Woman in Cabin 10

Lo Blacklock, a journalist, has just been given the assignment of a lifetime: a week on a luxury cruise with only a handful of cabins. As the week on the ship wears on,  Lo witnesses what she can only describe as a nightmare: a woman being thrown overboard. The problem? All passengers remain accounted for—and so, the ship sails on as if nothing has happened, despite Lo’s desperate attempts to convey that something (or someone) has gone terribly, terribly wrong.

I mean, you’re stuck out at sea and you just know that someone on the boat is a killer but no one will believe you and you can’t quite put the pieces together in your head … it was quite a crazy ride! The book gets an A+ in the suspense department for sure.

But, there were some things in the book that didn’t add up … like running around in the night in the Norwegian mountains wet and with no jacket! Hardly likely. And I didn’t care for the main character most of the time … too whiny!

But, the book was full of suspense, told a good story and is one that can be read quickly.

Thrillers by Female Authors

If you liked The Woman in Cabin 10 then I think you’ll also like …

The Couple Next Door, Shari Lapena

Your neighbour told you that she didn’t want your six-month-old daughter at the dinner party. Nothing personal, she just couldn’t stand her crying. Your husband said it would be fine. After all, you only live next door. You’ll have the baby monitor and you’ll take it in turns to go back every half hour. But now, as you race up the stairs in your deathly quiet house, your worst fears are realized. She’s gone. You’ve never had to call the police before. But now they’re in your home, and who knows what they’ll find there.

This is another psychological thriller where you just don’t know what’s going on until close to the end.

Have you read either of these books above? What did you think?

  1. I just finished Ruth Ware’s first book, In a Dark, Dark Wood and enjoyed it. The Woman in Cabin 10 is sitting on my bookshelf, and I hope to get to it this fall – my husband gave it to me for my birthday but wants me to hurry up and read it so he can read it, too!

I have read ‘The Couple Next Door’. It grabbed me from the beginning!

  3. I’ve been hearing about this book everywhere, but haven’t jumped on it. I haven’t been having great luck with thrillers lately.
