Reading From The Bestsellers List [Ready Player One]

Ready Player One, Ernest Cline is currently sitting at spot #2 on the NYT Best Sellers List! This is really no surprise considering the movie just came out. I probably won’t get to see it in the theater so I added it to my Netflix cue and now I’m waiting very impatiently.

Ready Player One, Ernest Cline

In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he’s jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade’s devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world’s digital confines, puzzles that are based on their creator’s obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them. When Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade’s going to survive, he’ll have to win—and confront the real world he’s always been so desperate to escape.

I read Ready Player One in 2014 and loved it! I still recommend it to people who are into the 80s or gaming or puzzles. I couldn’t put this one down and as a child of the 80s, I completely ate up all the references from that decade. Seriously, so much fun. Cline really knows his trivia! The story is a nerd-tastic romp through a dangerous cyberspace game and with pretty charming end results. And even if you don’t consider yourself to be geeky, you’ll still love this book.

Armada, Ernest Cline

Zack Lightman has spent his life dreaming. Dreaming that the real world could be a little more like the countless science-fiction books, movies, and videogames he’s spent his life consuming. And then he sees the flying saucer-the same one from the game he plays every night. Could it be that the game, is not actually a game at all? Zack will soon find out as he’s recruited to save the Earth from alien invaders.

  1. I, too, recently reread Ready Player One. Glad I did. The movie is fairly different from the book. Not bad, just different.

    • I’m kind of interested to see how they’ve changed it. I read the book so long ago. I might not be able to remember anyway.
