Road Trippin’ With Audiobooks

road trippinThis summer we have three separate mini road trip plans. We’ll be headed to Moab, Utah in a couple of weeks and then midsummer we’ll road trip to Yellowstone. We’ll then finish off the summer with a drive to Zions National Park.

We always take audio books on road trips. We like a mix of books that we listen to together and ones that we each pick out for ourselves.

I’ve put together a small list of audiobooks I plan to take with me on our road trips this year. This is what I’ve decided on…

Fear the Sky, Stephen Moss

In eleven years time, a million members of an alien race will arrive at Earth.Their technology is vastly superior to ours, and they know they cannot possibly lose the coming conflict. They do not want us, they want our planet. Their Agents are arriving.

Six of Crows, Leigh Bardugo

Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price—and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone…

Yes Please, Amy Poehler

In Amy Poehler’s highly anticipated first book, Yes Please, she offers up a big juicy stew of personal stories, funny bits on sex and love and friendship and parenthood and real life advice (some useful, some not so much), like when to be funny and when to be serious.

Broken Harbor, Tana French

A ghost estate outside Dublin – half-built, half-inhabited, half-abandoned – two children and their father are dead. The mother is on her way to intensive care. Scorcher Kennedy is given the case because he is the Murder Squad’s star detective.

Some of our past favorite listens have been…

The Scorpio Races, Maggie Stiefvater

It happens at the start of every November: the Scorpio Races. Riders attempt to keep hold of their water horses long enough to make it to the finish line. Some riders live. Others die. Puck Connolly is the first girl ever to enter the race. She is in no way prepared for what is going to happen.”

Ender’s Game, Orson Scott Card

Andrew “Ender” Wiggin thinks he is playing computer simulated war games; he is, in fact, engaged in something far more desperate. The result of genetic experimentation, Ender may be the military genius Earth desperately needs in a war against an alien enemy seeking to destroy all human life.

Code Name Verity, Elizabeth Wein

“A young teenage girl caught by the Nazi’s while working as a spy. This is the account of her interrogation and her story of the war. Compelling and gripping. She knows they will execute her. She knows she must talk because words are her only weapon now.”

A Walk in the Woods, Bill Bryson

“This is Bill Bryson’s hilarious account of the time he invited his old friend, Nick Nolte to accompany him on a hike of the Appalachian Trail which stretches from Georgia to Maine, more than 2000 miles. The two find that a lot more than friendship will be put to the test on this journey.”

I highly recommend these four books on audio. So, so good! If you’re not yet a fan of listening to books, these will convert you.

Have you read any of these? What audiobook would you recommend?
