Shout-Out to 2 Fave Female Authors of Spooky and Creeptastic Books

October is #WickedGoodReads Month here at GXO. This week, we’re focusing on books with wicked people, and today’s discussion is a Shout-Out to Our Favorite Female Horror Authors (see the full list of discussion topics here).

Tananarive Due

Last year, one of my favorite reads was Ghost Summer, Tananarive Due. It turned out to be one of my favorite reads of the year. It’s a collection of short stories that shows off Due’s skills at story-telling. I’ve also read Devil’s Wake (co-written with her husband, Stephen Barnes) and am currently reading The Good House, which is another gem. I’ll be making my way through more her backlist in the coming year – and Tananarive Due has most definitely become one of my auto-buy authors.

Mira Grant

This author totally put it on me with the Newsflesh trilogy. I started with Feed, and quickly moved through Deadline and Blackout. Zombie fighting bloggers sounds like it has serious potential to be a hot mess, but in Grant’s hands – the books were amazizngly good, thrilling, exciting and with a surprising element of reality to the entire situation. I moved on to Parasitology after that, and was similarly captured by Grant’s world building skill. My plan is to finish that series and then read everything else Mira Grant has written.

  1. Oooh I am reading Feed right now! I like it, but it is also quite long! I didn’t realize how long it would take me hahha. But it is definitely intriguing- and with the political stuff, it is so eerie considering that we have a messed up election happening, so it’s like, extra creepy 😉 I’ve not read anything by Tananarive Due, but I will have to add her to my list! Fabulous post!

    • Thank you Shannon! Good point about the elections. Adds a whole new level of creepy.
