ELEVEN+ New Year’s Resolutions Suck – Try This Instead … or try our #OneThingThisMonth approach.

TWELVE+ We started setting monthly goals – here’s #OneThingThisMonth for November and December.

I’ve been feeling a bit lackluster with my reading lately, but I did finish Temper, Nicky Drayden, which I really liked although the ending started getting a bit confusing. It’s a non-Westernized science fiction book, which I wish I had listened to on audio so I could hear the pronunciations of the unique names and places. I finally got my hands on Freshwater, Akwaeke Emezi, which I just started.

Freshwater (Book)

Ada begins her life in the south of Nigeria as a troubled baby and a source of deep concern to her family. Her parents, Saul and Saachi, successfully prayed her into existence, but as she grows into a volatile and splintered child, it becomes clear that something went terribly awry. When Ada comes of age and moves to America for college, the group of selves within her grows in power and agency. A traumatic assault leads to a crystallization of her alternate selves: Asụghara and Saint Vincent. As Ada fades into the background of her own mind and these selves–now protective, now hedonistic–move into control, Ada’s life spirals in a dark and dangerous direction.

I am super interested to look at “which book award matches your reading” as I often find I either haven’t read the books on the finalist list or don’t have the desire to.

  2. I’ve been doing Christmas everything, too. I found a radio station that only plays Christmas songs, so everyone around me is going to be annoyed. Have a great week!

@Aj I have a similar radio station – all Christmas music and it stays on in my car after Thanksgiving.

Interesting lists of books, I have a couple I want to read on the 100 NY Times list – one being the Sally Field book which already sits on my shelf. Must explore the Christmas cheesy Netflix list!
