5 Things From This Weekend | #AMonthofFaves 2019

Happy Monday! It’s the second week of #AMonthofFaves [The 2019 Edition] hosted by Girlxoxo and Traveling with T. Today’s prompt is to share a day in the life or just some highlights from your weekend. So here are 5 Random Things that made up my weekend.

ONE+ Since December started, every morning involves drinking tea and a quick read.

December Winter Morning Tea

I’m currently reading Into the Drowning Deep, Mira Grant – and it is so, so good. I’m drinking Trader Joe’s Organic Ginger Turmeric Tea with a packet of Caribbean Dreams Instant Ginger Tea added and lightly sweetened with a dash of Coffee Mate Natural Bliss Vanilla Almond Milk Creamer.

TWO+ This was college football conference championship weekend, so much of Saturday was spent watching the games – I went to schools in both the ACC and SEC – although only Clemson was in a conference championship game. My hubs requested fried chicken wings – and I only have this picture of the mess in progress … not the delicious extra crispy wings that were the result. One of my secrets is to add Parmesan cheese to the flour – anybody else do this?

THREE+ I also set up a hot chocolate station on our kitchen counter. My family and I had quite a debate about the crushed peppermint.

Hot Chocolate Station

My intention was for them to add marshmallows on top of the hot chocolate, and then sprinkle the crushed peppermint on top … because, it ain’t cheap and it just looks cute. But what he and my son have been doing, is adding the crushed peppermint to the hot chocolate – not just a sprinkle, but quite a bit more than that.

Hot Chocolate Bar

Of course, I’m like – we’re going to run out if you guys keep doing that. At which point he tells me to just buy the candy and crush it myself – which is not a bad idea. But still – which crushed peppermint team are you on – sprinkle on top – or add it to the hot chocolate and stir it in?

FOUR+ Sunday was the day to finish putting up Christmas stuff – and putting away all the boxes and stuff. We have multiple trees, and I got the last one, in our Family Room, decorated early Sunday morning – I had actually flocked this tree myself the week before (using this flocking powder) and I loved how it turned out.

Family Room Christmas Tree

I’ve only mentioned a bajillion times that Christmas is my favorite time of year, and I usually go all out with putting a little bit of the season in every room in our house.

FIVE+ Sunday marked my last work travel trip of the year (I hope) with a 4 hour flight, 45 min layover and then another 1 hour flight. It was brutal because this is my least favorite time of year to be doing work trips – but I am blessed to have a job where I get to see so many different places. I was running out of some travel essentials – so I went out and grabbed a few items – new brands to try out. This 4-pack of Kiss Me in the Garden Body Lotion and Dr. Bonner’s 18-n-1 Hemp Tea Tree Pure Castille Liquid Soap.

Plus of course, I tool with took Into the Drowning Deep, Mira Grant with me to read on the plane. Usually, I’ll listen to an audiobook, but there’s no way I’m leaving this book behind – it’s too engrossing.

And of course, I wrote this post!

  1. I’m in favor of blending peppermint with your drink, but I’d delegate the candy crushing duties to whoever is using it up 🙂 Your hot chocolate station sounds like fun!

I love the idea of a hot chocolate station!! Would it be silly for me to create one for just me? LOL

Are you saying you bought already crushed peppermint and that’s why it’s kind of pricey? I’ve never seen it already crushed. We’ve always just crushed our own cheap-o candy canes. I like it on top to start and then I mix it in later on, as I drink it.

Your flocked tree is really beautiful.

@Jinjer yes I found it already crushed at World Market. I think it was $5 for a bag. Definitely going to buy a bag of candy and crush it myself next time.

I’m not a peppermint fan at all so I wouldn’t use it! Also, we got the lights on our tree tonight. The decorations will come tomorrow. We’ve just had too much going on for Christmas decorating to happen in a timely manner. Ugh.

@Natashajk I love peppermint everything 🙂 And it’s never too late to decorate for Christmas. We still don’t have our real tree up yet.

  4. Hot Chocolate: A sprinkle of peppermint on top.

    And that tree? GORGEOUS.

  5. I am actually on the side of mixing the candy cane with the hot chocolate but my mom and I buy the hot chocolate mix with the pieces already included. My mom is a huge fan of peppermint everything at this time of year.

@Rachael I didn’t know they sold it with the pieces already mixed in – I have to look out for that.

If I drank hot drinks, I would definitely be a “little peppermint on top” kind of gal. Adding a bunch to the hot chocolate sounds like too much to me.
