Books On Our 2020 Spring Reading List

Here are a few books we’ve recently added to our reading list, and are looking forward to getting to during Spring.

From the Best Books of 2019 That We Missed list, I started Ninth House, Leigh Bardugo on audio and was really not enjoying it. I meant to read this for the March Monthly Motif Challenge, but I think it’s going to be a DNF. I do still plan to read Recursion, Blake Crouch.

Recursion, Blake Crouch

Memory makes reality. That’s what New York City cop Barry Sutton is learning as he investigates the devastating phenomenon the media has dubbed False Memory Syndrome—a mysterious affliction that drives its victims mad with memories of a life they never lived.

And from 2020 New Releases on Our Radar, I’m hoping to prioritize a few favorites! There are so many great books coming out this year!

Aurora Burning – Aurora Cycle #2, Amie Kauffman & Jay Kristoff

First, the bad news: an ancient evil—you know, your standard consume-all-life-in-the-galaxy deal—is about to be unleashed. The good news? Squad 312 is standing by to save the day. They’ve just got to take care of a few small distractions first.

I listened to Aurora Rising earlier this year. It was a solid YA sci-fi book and I really enjoyed it. I wouldn’t say it’s the best of the author’s work, but I’d still like to find out what happens to the crew next so I’m planning to read it.

Network Effect – Murderbot #5, Martha Wells

You know that feeling when you’re at work, and you’ve had enough of people, and then the boss walks in with yet another job that needs to be done right this second or the world will end, but all you want to do is go home and binge your favorite shows? And you’re a sentient murder machine programmed for destruction? Congratulations, you’re Murderbot. Come for the pew-pew space battles, stay for the most relatable A.I. you’ll read this century.

This series of novellas have been so fun to read. They’re short and fast paced and they’ve broken up long stretches of reading time for me. BUT! this one is supposed to be a full length, stand alone novel! I’m so here for this. I love Murderbot so much!

🍂 TANYA 🍂

I’ve gotten to all the must-read books on my Winter Reading list, and got through all of them – loved 2 and ended up not finishing 1. Now as I turn to Spring, not only am I trying to keep up with our 3 reading challenges, but I also want to start reading some of the new books.

Deathless Divide (Dread Nation #2), Justina Ireland

This book was just release in Feb. 2020, and the audiobook is available on Scrib’d. Since I loved the first in the series, and I’m in the mood for some more post-apocalyotic + zombie killing shenagians, I’ll be reaching for Deathless Divide quite soon.

deathless divide

Katherine Deveraux never expected to be allied with Jane McKeene. But after the hell she has endured, she knows friends are hard to come by – and that Jane needs her, too, whether Jane wants to admit it or not. Watching Jane’s back, however, is more than she bargained for, and when they both reach a breaking point, it’s up to Katherine to keep hope alive – even as she begins to fear that there is no happily-ever-after for girls like her.

If It Bleeds (Holly Gibney), Stephen King

From 2020 New Releases on Our Radar, If It Bleeds is coming out this Spring (May 5, 2020) – and I’m hoping to get it as soon as I can. I loved Holly’s character from The Bill Hodges Trilogy (5 Serial Killer Point of View Books That We Hate to Admit We Like) – and was glad when she made an appearance in The Outsider (one of my Fa(V)e #SummerReads of 2018). Now she’s back in this collection of 4 novellas … I can’t wait!

… From Book Lists …

I’ve saved quite a few lists with books I want to read – I collect book lists like how some people collect books – so for Spring, I want to take a few off Click If You Dare: 100 Favorite Horror Stories.
