How I Spent My Last 4 Audible Credits

Anyone else struggling with motivation during this ‘quarantine’ time? I’d like to tell you that I was using all this time to read a ton of books but in reality, I’ve felt quite down about being cooped up and so my motivation to do much of anything has been sapped. I’ve been turning to audiobooks because they don’t take much effort. I can listen while I wander aimlessly around my house keeping kids entertained and staring longingly out the window. All kidding aside though, audiobooks have been a great tool for me for many years and here are the last four books I purchased with my Audible credits.

The Sun Down Motel, Simone St. James

I just finished this one and WOWEEE! I loved it so hard. The mystery, the atmosphere, the supernatural element, the characters- it’s all so well done. Some people have said this is really scary but I thought it was just a wee bit spooky/creepy at times. The perfect thriller/ghost story. Now I need to go read The Broken Girls.

The secrets lurking in a rundown roadside motel ensnare a young woman, just as they did her aunt thirty-five years before. Upstate NY, 1982. Every small town like Fell, New York, has a place like the Sun Down Motel. Some customers are from out of town, passing through on their way to someplace better. Some are locals, trying to hide their secrets. Viv Delaney works as the night clerk to pay for her move to New York City. But something isn’t right at the Sun Down, and before long she’s determined to uncover all of the secrets hidden.

Nyxia Uprising, Scott Reintgen

Nyxia made our Genre Jump Off Reading List and our list of Underrated Books We Wish You Would Read. I’ve been pushing it for awhile because it just never received the buzz it deserved. It also made our list of Book Duets paired with Illuminae. Nyxia Uprising is the final book in the series. I absolutely loved the first two books. There is a diverse cast of characters and a fun space/alien planet setting. I just started listening to this one the other day and I’m excited to see how Reintgen wraps things up.

Desperate to return home to Earth and claim the reward Babel promised, Emmett and the Genesis team join forces with the Imago. Eden’s two moons are on a collision course no one can prevent. After building eight secret launch stations, the Imago hoped to lure Babel down to their doomed planet as they left it behind. A perfect plan until the Genesis team’s escape route was destroyed. Now the group must split up to survive the hostile terrain and reach another launch station. Will anyone make it off planet before the end hits?

Killers of the Flower Moon, David Grann

I’ve had my eye on this book for a long time and even checked it out from the library a few times but just never got to it. I finally decided to get the audio. This has such great reviews and I’m fascinated by the subject- the Osage murders and the birth of the FBI.

In the 1920s, the richest people per capita in the world were members of the Osage Indian Nation in Oklahoma. Then, one by one, they began to be killed off. One Osage woman, Mollie Burkhart, watched as her family was murdered. Her older sister was shot. Her mother was then slowly poisoned. And it was just the beginning, as more Osage began to die under mysterious circumstances.

Looking Glass, Andrew Mayne

The first book in this series, The Naturalist, made our list of Wicked Good Reads You’ll Lose Sleep Over and Audiobook Mysteries Better Than The Book. I enjoyed it so I thought I’d give the next book Looking Glass a try.

Professor Theo Cray caught one of the most prolific serial killers in history using revolutionary scientific methods. Now he’s been cut off from university research because of the shroud of suspicion around him after the death of his former student. Meanwhile, the desperate father of a missing child, ignored by the authorities and abandoned by his community, turns to Theo for help. The only clues are children’s drawings and an inner-city urban legend about someone called the Toy Man. To unravel the mystery behind the Toy Man, Theo must set aside his scientific preconceptions and embrace a world where dreams and nightmares carry just as much weight as reality.
