Monthly Motif Reading Challenge [February Check In]

Hey there! Have you planned out your read for February yet? Remember we have our Goodreads GXO Reading Challenge Group to help you with that if you need it.

SEEING RED

“Read a book with a red cover or with the word RED in the title. Bonus if it has both.”

Our top recommendation this month:

Red Rising, Pierce Brown

Inspired by a longing for justice, and driven by the memory of lost love, Darrow, a member of the Red caste (the lowest), sacrifices everything to infiltrate the legendary Institute, a proving ground for the dominant Gold caste, where the next generation of humanity’s overlords struggle for power. He will be forced to compete for his life and the very future of civilization against the best and most brutal of Society’s ruling class. There, he will stop at nothing to bring down his enemies… even if it means he has to become one of them to do so.

I read A Woman Is No Man by Etaf Rum. The cover of the edition for sale in the Indian Subcontinent has liberal splashes of red. This is my first sort-of book review, and you can read it here https://www.instagram.com/p/B9j7OefnBMl/?igshid=1tfp403c3mdr5

It’s an important book imo, and I rated it 8.5/10. Would recommend!

  2. I read Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston.

My Goodreads review: “I freaking loved this book. I thought it was going to be a 4 or 4.5 stars but no…it’s a 5. A well deserved 5. Ugh. It is so cuuuute, so funny, and so smart. If you want a cute, queer contemporary romance DEFINITELY pick this up. I swooned, I laughed out loud and I may even have shed a tear or two. The super six are everything…can we just be friends please? Lol so good!”

I’m late with this one because while I read most of it in February, I didn’t finish it until March – oops. I’m still counting it.

I read The Housewife Assassin’s Handbook by Josie Brown – with a cover that’s mostly red. This was just the kind of bookish popcorn I needed.

I loved reading your review of Red Dragon – I haven’t read the books and I don’t think I’ve seen the movie either. Great choice for the challenge!
