I am reading the first book (150 out of 700 pages to go) of the All Souls trilogy – A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. I had seen the tv series ( first season) two years ago and loved it. S02 is coming next year and the set photos have been out, which finally drove me to reading the book to fill the gap and stymie my impatience for the new season. I am enjoying the book, especially the relationship of the central (romantic) pair, which I believe is one of the more beautiful, nuanced, and well-developed ‘dynamic duos’ I have read in a series. I think I will read the second book for the 2021 January ‘Once Upon a Time’ challenge.

    • @Somdutta I read the first two books year ago and loved them. I can’t believe I still haven’t finished the series. Maybe I will make it a priority to read the last book this year.

That’s encouraging! I realized I will not be able to read the Shadow of Night this month, but I plan to get to it later in the year.

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/3632352763 I read “The Game” by Laurie R. King, which is the 7th volume starring the dynamic duo of Mary Russell & Sherlock Holmes. I adore this series and their relationship.

    • @Sue Huh. So Sherlock is married in this series? Interesting!

I started this month’s motif a couple weeks before last month was over. Two reasons. 1. Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers has THREE dynamic duos. Sam and Frodo, Merry and Pippin, and Legolas and Gimli! I love this series! and 2. after I left the review of the book I read last month, the author actually reached out to me and we had a great discussion, the result of which he sent me a link for a free copy to the second book and I’m excited to read it. I had told him the story was great, loved it, but the errors were insane. So, I’m looking forward to reading the second so I can see the improvement.

    • That’s awesome Dorothy! Hope you enjoy the second book.
