Reading Lately [The Travel With Me Edition]

Reading Lately

Since my last reading lately, I’ve had a road trip (5 hours each way) and a long flight (4 hours and back). This is what I read, i.e. the Travel With Me Edition.

Recently Finished Reading

The Death of Mrs. Westaway

The Death of Mrs. Westaway, Ruth Ware; Narrated by Imogen Church. Excellent audiobook narration, but the main character was just so naive that half the time I wanted to stop reading! There were so many time I thought, “Why can’t she see what’s so obvious!” Some people can divorce their like of a book from their dislike of the main character – I can’t do that. If I don’t like the main character (mostly because of naivete, or stupidity), then I don’t like the book as much. And that’s what happened here. Still, it was a good read, and pulled me out of an audiobook reading hangover from Queenie, Candice Carty-Williams – which I’m still not over by the way.

Daisy Jones and the Six

Daisy Jones and the Six, Taylor Jenkins Reid; Narrated by Jennifer Beals, Benjamin Bratt, Judy Greer, Pablo Schreiber. This book has been getting mad props everywhere – and to tell you the truth, it started off rather slowly for me. I did get into it eventually and really liked it in the end, but there were long stretches of boredom too. Overall, I would say it’s not worth all the hype (some yes – but not all that much).

Everyone knows Daisy Jones & The Six, but nobody knows the reason behind their split at the absolute height of their popularity . . . until now.

In case there’s still anyone out there who doesn’t know – this is a fictional story, so all the bands are people interviewed for this story are made-up. It’s an oral history type of novel told from multiple points of view. The audiobook is a MUST! The narrators were excellent and it was a really good choice to use multiple narrators because they were really able to bring life to the story.

Currently Reading

The audiobook of An Anonymous Girl, Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen just came off hold. So far, it’s just OK for me, but I’m not very far into it. Seems like another story with a naive main character, but it may pick up.

An Nonoymous Girl (Book)

When Jessica Farris signs up for a psychology study conducted by the mysterious Dr. Shields, she thinks all she’ll have to do is answer a few questions, collect her money, and leave. But as the questions grow more and more intense and invasive and the sessions become outings where Jess is told what to wear and how to act, she begins to feel as though Dr. Shields may know what she’s thinking… and what she’s hiding. As Jess’s paranoia grows, it becomes clear that she can no longer trust what in her life is real, and what is one of Dr. Shields’ manipulative experiments. Caught in a web of deceit and jealousy, Jess quickly learns that some obsessions can be deadly.
