3 YA Books With Kick Ass Females Who Survived the Odds

FEMALESWell, the last three weeks I haven’t done a lot of kicking butt and taking names. Rather, I’ve been in survival mode and barely hanging on. But I’m ready to get my game on again so I think I’ll take some lessons from these awesome female leads from some of my favorite YA books.

Bitterblue, Kristin Cashore

Eight years have passed since the young Princess Bitterblue, and her country, were saved from the vicious King Leck. Now Bitterblue is the queen of Monsea, and her land is at peace. But the influence of her father, a violent psychopath with mind-altering abilities, lives on.

She lived with a psychopath for a father. King Leck was cruel and had the ability to bend the minds of others to do unspeakable things. She stands on her own now as Queen of Monsea and she has to work to rebuild a country in ruin from her father’s reign and uncover people she can trust. Honestly, I had a hard time choosing just one of the three books in this series because each of the female leads are fantastic.

Dust & Decay, Jonathan Mayberry

Six months have passed since the terrifying battle with Charlie Pink-eye and the Motor City Hammer in the zombie-infested mountains of the Rot & Ruin. It’s also six months since Benny Imura and Nix Riley saw something in the air that changed their lives.

Nix is the fiercest of fierce in this series. She wields a sword to fight zombies and help keep her friends safe and she’s not afraid to say what she thinks. When things get tough, she gets tougher.

Ruin & Rising, Leigh Bardugo

Alina will have to forge new alliances and put aside old rivalries as she and Mal race to find the last of Morozova’s amplifiers. But as she begins to unravel the Darkling’s secrets, she reveals a past that will forever alter her understanding of the bond they share and the power she wields.

Alina is the only one who has the strength to defeat the Darkling and stop him from taking all of Ravka. She’s bonded to him in a way that she has never understood. As she starts to uncover the past, she’s terrified of what she finds but knows she can use her knowledge to take on his dark power.
