4 [More] Weird Ways the World Ends in Books That are #WickedGoodReads

Apparently we have a thing for reading books with weird apocalyptic events because we’ve read about the World ending by killer plants, slow rotation of the Earth, common drugs and hurricanes in 4 Books With Crazy Weird Apocalyptic Events and ending by animals, hair loss, an unknown entity and an unknown illness in 4 More Books With Crazy Weird Apocalyptic Events. Well – we’ve got even more weird for you with these 4 [More] Weird Ways the World Ends in Books.

Kim –

Multi-Tentacled Lake Monster

Meddling Kids, Edgar Cantero. When I saw this was a take off of Scooby Doo, I thought it’d be a fun read. I also loved Cantero’s novel, Supernatural Enhancements.  They don’t have a Scooby Doo in this story, but they do have a highly excitable Weimaraner on their team. Turns out some seriously twisted black magic unearths a giant tentacled lake monster which wants to take over Blyton Hills. Overall this book is just a good time.

1990. The teen detectives once known as the Blyton Summer Detective Club are all grown up and haven’t seen each other since their fateful, final case in 1977. They’re adults now and have suffered some serious repercussions from that night. It’s time they reunite and put their demons behind them.

Human Engineered Organic Beings

Partials, Dan Wells. Not the most creative end to the world but it’s kinda plausible. I liked the action in this book and the fact that it didn’t spend a bunch of time on a silly romance or something. The interesting part is that surviving humans are dying off from something called RM and their desperately working to find a cure.

Humanity is all but extinguished after a war with Partials—engineered organic beings identical to humans. Sixteen-year-old Kira is determined to find a solution. As she tries desperately to save what is left of her race, she discovers that that the survival of both humans and Partials rests in her attempts to answer questions about the war’s origin that she never knew to ask.

Tanya …

Ants

Invasive, Chuck Wendig. The story itself is enough to give a person nightmares – killer ants that swarm and bite with deadly venom. Wendig was able to make me feel uncomfortable and practically ready to murder any ants that come across my path.

Invasive(Book)

Hannah Stander is a consultant for the FBI – a futurist who helps the Agency with cases that feature demonstrations of bleeding-edge technology. She’s in an airport, waiting to board a flight home to see her family, when she receives a call from Agent Hollis Copper. “I’ve got a cabin full of over a thousand dead bodies,” he tells her. Whether those bodies are all human, he doesn’t say.

Sleeping

Sleeping Beauties, Owen King and Stephen King. Yeah, only half the population is wiped out – the women … but didyanotice that the women, who have gone to another place, are trying to build a new society and move on, and the men are trying desperately to figure out a way to get the women back. Hmmm …

Sleeping Beauties (Book)

Something happens when women go to sleep; they become shrouded in a cocoon-like gauze. If they are awakened, if the gauze wrapping their bodies is disturbed or violated, the women become feral and spectacularly violent; and while they sleep they go to another place. The men of our world are abandoned, left to their increasingly primal devices. One woman, however, the mysterious Evie, is immune to the blessing or curse of the sleeping disease. Is Evie a medical anomaly to be studied, or is she a demon who must be slain?

Have you read any of the books mentioned above? What’s the last book you read that involved an apocalypse?
