How I Use Google Keep Notes for Organization

For me, using a personal daily planner just isn’t necessary – my daily life just doesn’t fluctuate that much, so a time / day based calendar doesn’t work. What’s worked for me instead is keeping short simple lists in the Google Keep app on my phone.

My Google Keep Notes

These notes act as to-do / to-buy lists.

Using Google Keep Notes

Today To-Do

You can pin notes in Google Keep and it will stay in that position. I’ve pinned a “Today” note on my phone, which is where I put any errands that I need to get done and what I need to buy and where I need to go … today – which could mean tomorrow, or the day after. It’s basically a sh!t I need to get done list, like get groceries, make doctor’s appointments, go to nail salon, etc.

Out of / Rebuy

This note is for things that we’ve run out of – or will run out of soon – and need to repurchase. There are some brands that we’re devoted to, and ideally, it goes on this list before we’re completely out of it.

Groceries

You can make checklists on Google Keep Notes – On your phone app, just open the note, tap the “+” sign at the bottom and select the checkboxes option. I use this type of note for my “Groceries” note, and the first item is “Take reusable bags.” I keep them in the trunk of me car, but 50% of the time, I’ll forget them, so this acts as my little reminder – even if I’m already in the store – I’ll run out and go get them. And the other things in this note are items that I add throughout the week.

Monthly Workouts

This is a new thing for me, but I’ve also been tracking my workouts in Google Keep Notes. It’s super easy to type it in when I’m in cool down mode or the few minutes after a workout. I’m usually listening to workout music on my phone anyway, so I don’t have to worry about capturing it later when I might forget. I also use treadmills a lot, so I make up a lot of walk / run routines, and I keep track of them here in this note.

Beauty to Try

I’ve been watching a lot of Youtube videos lately on beauty products and when I come across a product I want to try, I add it to my “Beauty to Try” note. And it’s way longer than it should be thanks to GlamTwinz334.

Home Stuff

Any items I’m thinking about purchasing for the home goes into this note. It’s usually recommendations of things I’ve come across, and also some things that we need, like an air purifier (still researching which one to get), garbage bin for my son’s room and a steamer for clothes (also in research mode on this one).

How I Use the Notes

The “Today” note is my go to! I put whatever needs to be done there. Any items from the other lists that I’m ready to buy, I “cut and paste” and put them into the Today note (if I’m not buying it online). It’s a simple system that just works.

Do you use the notes app on your phone? Or if you use a different system to stay on top of your to-do list – what do you use?

I love Google Keep. Any time I see something I know will be useful later, I add it to Google Keep. My list of books that I want to read / get is pinned at the top for me.

  1. […] my son’s birthday. He’s a November baby and will be 16 this year – of course he added his birthday to the calendar at the beginning of the year! He wants to do a laser tag event – so I add to my “ToDay” note in the Google Keep App on my phone to schedule the event, and to order a cake (see How I Use Google Keep Notes for Organization). […]
