2021 Monthly Book Award Reading Challenge

award reading challenge

Welcome to the second annual Book Award Reading Challenge hosted here at GXO. We searched around for a reading challenge featuring book award winners, but couldn’t find any active ones, so we started our own last year. Now we’re back for another year!

HOW IT WORKS

  • This is a MONTHLY reading challenge that runs all year long from January 1, 2021 to December 31, 2021.
  • Your task is to read at least 1 book each month that has WON a book award in that month (any year).
  • EXCEPT December. Read ANY book award winner.
  • Post what you’ve read anywhere online – your blog, Goodreads and social media using the hashtag #AwardReadingChallenge
  • Check in with on our monthly post and leave a comment with a link to where you’ve posted or tell us in the comments about the book(s) you chose to read.

THE MOST IMPORTANT DETAILS

~ To count for the challenge, the book read must have WON a book award in that month but in any year. e.g. For January – any book that won the Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction & Nonfiction in 2020 would qualify, because it was presented on January 27, 2020 – but a National Book Awards winner would not count for that month – because that award is presented in November.

~ All types of books and genres count – Fiction, Non-Fiction, Novellas, Audiobooks, Kid-lit, Adult, Young Adult, Middle Grade Fiction, etc.

BOOK AWARDS RESOURCES

Two good places to start are with our own Major Book Awards Calendar for 2020 and the Book Awards list at BookTalk.

SIGN UP TO PARTICIPATE

~ Sign up by commenting below to participate and announce your participation via your blog, Goodreads, or other social media platform using the hashtag #AwardReadingChallenge.

~ And don’t forget to come back to this post OR our monthly check in post where you can comment with the book you read and a link to your discussion.

So I am a little ahead on this, I just needed to plan out the TBR lists for books that are supposed to be read in certain months and only those months, I can’t find awards given in October. Are there any?

    • Yes. The Nommos Awards, British Fantasy Awards, The Booker Prize, and the Nobel Prize for Literature all traditional present in October. 🙂
