4 Must Read Books on My Summer Reading List {The 2015 Familiar Authors Edition}

This summer, I’m picking books to read that are written by authors familiar to me – authors whose books I’ve read and loved.

Second Life,S.J. Watson

If Watson writes on a paper towel and publishes it – I want to read it. That’s how much I loved his first novel, Before I Go to Sleep. Now he’s back with another thriller, Second Life, and it is a must read for me this summer. “She loves her husband. She’s obsessed by a stranger. She’s a devoted mother. She’s prepared to lose everything. She knows what she’s doing. She’s out of control. She’s innocent. She’s guilty as sin.  She’s living two lives. She might lose both.”

Armada, Ernest Cline

If you haven’t read Ready Player One by Cline yet – well, I’m sorry for you my friend! His latest novel, Armada, seems like it has a similar vibe and I’m super excited to get a hold of a copy. “Zack tells himself, he knows the difference between fantasy and reality … And then he sees the flying saucer. Even stranger, the alien ship he’s staring at is straight out of the videogame he plays every night, a hugely popular online flight simulator called Armada—in which gamers just happen to be protecting the earth from alien invaders.”

Finders Keepers, Stephen King

I’ve read countless books by Stephen King, and he’s one of my favorite authors. The last book I read by him was Mr. Mercedes, which now seems to be part of a planned trilogy, with the retired detective, Bill Hodges, as a returning character. I’m game. So I’ll be checking out Bill Hodges #2, Finders Keepers.

Glory O’Brien’s History of the Future, A.S. King

I promised to read more books by A.S. King after I finished Everybody Sees the Ants. This must absolutely be changed, and it will happen with her most recent novel. And then I need to go back and read her other works too.

Of course, I plan to read more books over the course of the summer months, but those 3 are my must reads! Which books are on YOUR must-read list ASAP?

    Ready Player One was on my radar a few years ago, but I never read it. It sounds like I need to reconsider!

      I hope you get to read it – it’s really good!

  3. PS Is your directly of book blogging memes still around? Because I totally used it alllll the time, and have been a bit lost not being able to find it for a while.

  4. Armada is on my list too, though not for the summer. This month I have found myself wanting to re-read things I’ve loved, like Among Others by Jo Walton. Next month I am hoping on really attacking some of the review copies on my pile. Because woe to me if I don’t manage them before the calendar year ends.

    Happy reading!

      Ahhh Nikki – I didn’t love Among Others – we so have to talk about this book, because so many people love it, but I didn’t get it at all.

  1. […] 4 Must Read Books on My Summer Reading List {The Familiar Authors Edition} – I’ve only finished 1 book from this list, which was Glory O’Brien’s History of the Future by A.S. King. I liked it, but it didn’t really wow med. YA books about teenage angst aren’t really my thing. I did like the magical realism aspect of it though. […]
